Japanese Encephalitis claims 29 lives in Malkangiri

japanese-encephalitis-2Malkangiri district of Odisha is under the grip of Japanese Encephalitis, which has claimed 29 lives in 26 days in the district. And, some critically affected children  are undergoing treatment.

In this connection, Health and Family Welfare Minister Atanu Sabyasachi Nayak and Secretary Arti Ahuja with a 25 member team of medical specialists on Monday visited the affected areas to take stock of the situation.

As a major step to control the disease, the  State Government  has announced  a special package of  Rs 50 lakh for Malkangiri district.

Notably, the deaths of infants were due to the Japanese Encephalitis (JE) which has transmitted by mosquitoes to humans and the pigs act as hosts for the Japanese Encephalitis Virus (JEV).
