Jaundice returns to Cuttack, Health Minister Silent

Jaundice-OdishaIn 2015, Odisha Health Minister Atanu Sabyasachi Nayak miserably failed to counter the jaundice menace in Cuttack and other parts of the state, yet survived thanks to the patronage he enjoyed from the top brass in the Government. Now, yet again, jaundice made a return to haunt him.

According to local media reports, around 50 people have been affected by jaundice (a water-born disease). However, the district administration has not confirmed the figure and said only 15-20 people have been affected so far.

Jaundice has reportedly made its presence felt in Nuasahi, Talasahi, Chinapitasahi and Majhisahi in Jobra region of Cuttack. As soon as the report was highlighted by media and NGOs, Cuttack Collector and CDMO held a meeting to take stock of the situation and make special arrangements to counter the jaundice outbreak. The Health Minister has maintained a stoic silence, may be due to Holi celebrations.
