JAVA to hold Convention at BBSR against Land Bill

Land Acquistion BillJami Adhigrahan Virodhi Abhijan, JAVA, an Odisha based outfit, is going to organize a state level convention at Lohia Academy, Bhubaneswar on 21st   March 2015 to protest against the Land Acquisition Bill tabled in the Parliament recently.

The member organisations affiliated to JAVA have been protesting in the State against the Land Acquisition Ordinance by the Modi Government.

However, realizing the need of the collective efforts to fight against the Land Bill a preparatory meeting of campaign was held on 27th Feb at Shiskhyaka Mahasangh, Bhubaneswar followed by 7th March meeting .

To spearhead this campaign a group of 9 conveners consisting of noted activists of Odisha i.e Prashant Paikaray, Prafulla Samantray, Rabi Das, Ashish Kanungo, Sushant Panigrahi, Ashok Pradhan, Bhalla Chandra Sarangi, Shivaram and Srikanta Mohanty has been formed. This group will be coordinated by the PPSS spoke person Prashant Paikray.

Prashant Paikray informed that “around 300 people across the State from different struggle groups including Krushak Sangathan, Fisher’s unions, Anti-displacement struggle groups, Dalit and tribal Sangathan, Agriculture workers, Slum dellers’ group etc. are going to participate in State level Convention.”

“Besides, leaving the ruling political parties like BJP, BJD and even Congress, all the farmers’ and workers’ organisation and unions affiliated to different political parties are also going to join the convention” he said.

On 21st March the Convention will start at 11.am and Rabi Das will present a base paper highlighting the problems on the present Land Acquisition Bill tabled in the Parliament by Modi Government. On the same day, the action plan of the Jami Adhigrahan Virodhi Abhijan will be declared.

“The Jami Adhigrahan Virodhi Abhijan will also coordinate with the all Indian league against Land Acquisition bill” Paikray said.
