Jayee Rajguru was not a Freedom Fighter: Dama Rout

Insight Bureau: Odisha Agriculture Minister Dr. Damodar Rout triggered a storm yet again with his fresh controversial statement that Jayee Rajguru was not a freedom fighter.

Dama quoted the Historians and their research to conclude that Jayee Rajguru had waged a battle against the British after he failed to get his dues although he was in good terms with them earlier. “He was killed by the British due to personal animosity. There was no movement or rebellion,” said Damodar Rout.

“The actual Paika Rebellion began in 1817 under Baxi Jagabandhu, while Jayee Rajguru was killed in 1806. So, it would be unfair to say that Jayee Rajguru led the Paika Bidroha,” Dr. Rout said.

Just a couple of days ago, Puri Gajapati Dibyasingha Deb sought to give credit to Jayee Rajguru as the leader of Paika Bidroha.
