Kalinga TV Colloquium-2015 held in BhubaneswarBhubaneswar, May 4: Kalinga TV Colloquium-2015 is an initiative of Kalinga Media and Entertainment Pvt. Ltd. was organized on Sunday with a daylong panel discussions on various topics such as “space in electronic media for under-served and under privileged communities, reconciling freedom and accountabilities: Media in information consuming era and Odisha-2020”. Inaugurating the colloquium 2015, Dharmendra Pradhan, Union Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas, Government of India said Media should be cooperative and friendly.

Media should be free from corporate and has to be more sensitive towards general public. The inaugural session was graced by Maxwell Ranga, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, Embassy of the Republic of Zimbabwe; Pradeep Kumar Amat, Minister of Finance and Public Enterprises, Government of Odisha; Ranjib Biswal, Member of Parliament (RS); Prasad Harichandan, President, Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee; G. C. Pati, IAS, Chief Secretary, Government of Odisha, and Anurag Batra, Chairman & Editor-in-Chief, Business World.

The first session was started with panel discussion on space in electronic media for under-served and under privileged communities, where Suhel Seth, Managing partner, Counselage India pvt. Ltd. conducted the panel discussion as moderator. Dr. Sambit patra, National spokes person, BJP, Shubhranshu Choudhury, Ex-South Asia, Producer of BBC TV; Ms. Abantika, Actress; Victor Mallet, South Asia Bureau Chief, the Financial Times and Dr. Shrikanta Panigrahi, Environmental Advisor to Prime Minister were participated in the panel discussion. Dr. Patra Said News should have no emotion, it should be very neutral. Mr. Choudhury focused on democratization of news. He said, for better democratization of Politics we should have to democratize news and media. Ms. Abantika said, there is space in media and cinema. People have to show case what is good.

Dr. Panigrahi emphasized on scientific and technological news. Everything should be presented in a balanced manner in media, he added. In session 2, panel discussion on reconciling of freedom and accountability: media in information consuming era was chaired by Dilip Satapathy Bureau Chief, Business Standar. Shri B.N. Nanda, Economic Advisor, Ministry of MSME, Government of India; Prof. Chintamani Mahapatra, Chairman, Centre for Canadian, US and Latin American Studies, School of International Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University; Ashutosh Kumar, Spokesman, AAP, New Delhi;  Prabal Pratap Singh, Senior Journalist; Rajkumar Sharma, Sr. Journalist and Harish Dwivedi, MP(L.S) were participated the panel discussion. Session 3 was held with a panel discussion on Odisha-2020, chaired by Umapada Bose, Editor, Odisha Express and Jual Oram Union Minister of Tribal Affairs; Dr. Damodar Rout, Minister of Cooperation and Excise, Government of Odisha; Baishnab Parida, MP, (RS); Prithiviraj Harichandan, Leader, BJP; Pratap Sarangi, Former, MLA, BJP; Bhrugu Baxipatra, Leader, BJP; Dr. H . K. Satapathy, VC, Rashtriya Sanskrit Vidyapeetha, Tirupati; Bijay Kumar Sahoo, President-HR, Reliance Industries Limited (Retail & Infotel), Mumbai; Dr. Ajay Pradhan MD, DHI, New Delhi; and Deepak Rath, Editor, Uday India participated in discussion.

All the panelists agreed that all should work to make Odisha a top state in the country within 2020. Dr. S. C. Jamir, Governor of Odisha graced the valedictory session as chief guest. He said, Mushrooming of news channels sometimes affects the credibility and ethics of reporting. When there is a cut-throat competition in the Indian media, it is the credibility which is the ultimate winner and makes the difference. Among others Dr. Damodar Rout; Dr. Prasanna Patasani, MP, Loksabha; Dr. Pradeep Panigrahi, Minister, Higher Education, Govt. of Odisha and Sanjib Marik, DG, Police graced the occasion. Dr. Achyuta Samanta, Founder, Kalinga TV gave welcome address in inaugural and valedictory session, while Himasu Khatua, MD, Kalinga TV proposed vote of thanks.
