Work at the Balangir side of Khordha-Balangir rail route will begin in December 2015. It was announced by Odisha Transport Minister Ramesh Chandra Majhi today. The decision was taken at a high-level meeting chaired by CM Naveen Patnaik.
The initial work will be done on the 19-km stretch on Balangir side. The Odisha Government has acquired land for the project.
In July 2015, Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu had inaugurated the 32-km railway line between Khordha Road and Begunia. Work on the 112-km Begunia-Daspalla stretch is going on. The Khordha-Balangir railway line project was delayed many times in the past. The survey was completed before independence, while the actual work began in 2007, but went on a tardy pace in the last 8 years.
