Kunduli Gangrape: Crime Branch sends Samples to CFSL, Kolkata

ONI Bureau: Under fire from several quarters, the Crime Branch in Odisha sought to a firefighting by sending samples (exhibits) of Kunduli victim to the Central Forensic Science Laboratory) in Kolkata for re-examination.

“Crime Branch is the premier investigation agency of the State and functions with utmost professionalism and care. As a dispute has surfaced questioning the findings of report, DGP, Odisha dated 27.01.18, has directed to get the exhibits
re-examined from Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) for a second opinion, so as to clear the air and put an end to all speculations in order to establish fairness and transparency in investigation which has been maintained throughout,” said press release issued by SP, CID, Crime Branch, Odisha.

Questions were raised on the State Forensic Lab as well as the Crime Branch after a leaked report showed presence of semen of two people on the undergarments of the victim. Later, the Lab rejected it, saying that was just a draft inter-divisional report and the final report found no trace of semen.

But, the way the Forensic Lab and State Police conducted themselves, raised serious questions on their transparency and credibility as well as the probe process.
