Jagannath-SunabesaThe first ‘Sunabesa’ or ‘Golden Attire’ of Lord Balabhadra, Devi Subhadra and Lord Jagannath was held with religious fervour at Srimandir, Puri yesterday. Around five lakh devotees throng Puri to witness the glorious extravaganza – the first Sunabesa after Nabakalebara. The rituals continued till late night, as the devotees were in queue to get a ‘darshan’.

The ‘Sunabesa’ marked the end of nine-day Rath Yatra festival. The deities on their chariots wore arms, crown and other ornaments made of gold. They were also decorated with golden hands and feet.

The police and administration did a wonderful job to manage the crowd, while the servitors performed the rituals without fail. Tight security arrangements were made to prevent any untoward incidents, as there was a concern following the terror attack in Gurdaspur.
