Let Opposition criticise, We are busy with Relief & Rehabilitation: Naveen

ONI Bureau: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has announced relief package for 3 cyclone-affected districts – Ganjam, Gajapati and Rayagada this evening after conducting an aerial survey earlier in the day. He also shrugged off the criticism saying priority lies somewhere else.

All affected families of Gajapati, Ganjam and Gunupur sub-division of Rayagada districts would be given relief for 15 days, the CM announced. “On an average, a family of 4 members will be provided with more than Rs 3,000 as relief at the rate of Rs 60 per adult and Rs 45 per child per day,” he said.

The CM admitted that Cyclone Titli has done extensive damage to crops, road communications, trees and power sector. “All authorities have been directed to restore road connectivity to cut off areas within next 48 hours. Power supply to 90% of the affected areas would be resumed within 48 hours and remaining 10% areas would get electricity in 3-5 days. Safe drinking water will be provided in all blocks within 48 hours and defunct tube wells will be repaired by tomorrow,” the CM said.

“House and crop damage assessment will begin after the relief and restoration process are completed”, he added. While responding to a query on the allegations levelled by opposition parties, Mr. Patnaik said, “If the Opposition wants to criticise, they can do so. We are busy with relief & rehabilitation work”.

Chief Secretary Aditya Prasad Padhi also confirmed that food packets are being airdropped from naval helicopters in affected areas and District Collectors have been asked to speed up the relief and restoration work.
