Mahanadi Row: BJD holds Dharna at Cuttack Collector’s office

The ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) today staged a protest rally over the issue of construction of barrages by Chhattisgarh Government on Mahanadi River in front of the Cuttack Collector’s office.

Hundreds of party activists including BJD MLAs from Cuttack district, youth wing president and Minister Sanjay Dasburma took part in the rally.

Dasburma said that, construction of any barrages in the upstream would have a severe impact on agriculture practice in the state as Mahanadi is the life line of Odisha.

Inspite of waiting for the consent from the Joint Control Board (JCB) with the Chhattisgarh government who is ready to solve the issues, the activists had started protesting.

The BJD activists on Wednesday stop all Chhattisgarh-bound goods trains at railway stations for half-an hour as a token protest.
