Mahanadi Row: LS Speaker seeks reply from Balyan over Privilege Motion

Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan has issued notice to MoS Water Resources, Sanjeev Balyan, seeking his response over the privilege motion brought by the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) over the Mahanadi dispute between Chhattisgarh and Odisha.

MoS Balyan had told the House that despite several letters written by the Chhattisgarh Government to Odisha Government between 2006 and 2015, the latter neither responded nor objected to the projects, including Kelo.

However, the Odisha Government rejected the claims, saying they never received any letters from Chhattisgarh. The BJD accused Balyan of misleading the House and brought the privilege motion against him.

Earlier, Balyan had clarified that he just referred to the information given by Chhattisgarh Government over this issue.
