Man carrying Wifes Body on Shoulder: OHRC seeks Report within 2 weeks

Man-Van-OdishaTaking suo motu cognizance of the case, the Odisha Human Rights Commission (OHRC) on Friday sought report from Kalahandi Collector and Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO) within two weeks in connection with the case of a tribal man being denied to a mortuary van to carry his wife’s dead body.

Notably, Dana Majhi, was seen walked around 10 km carrying his wife’s body as he had failed to get a mortuary van from the government hospital at Bhawanipatna in Kalahandi district. After the matter came to light, he was provided an ambulance , arranged by a local journalist and a businessman.

The OHRC’s action came on the basis of news addressed by local, national and international level. The acting chairperson of the OHRC Justice B K Mishra, ordered the concerned officials to send copies of the press clippings regarding the issue.
