Maoist Camps destroyed in Kalahandi, Odisha

Maoists-OdishaIn a major breakthrough, the security personnel have destroyed four Maoist camps in the Telan forest area in Kalahandi district of Odisha and recovered several arms and ammunition apart from Naxal literature.

At least 18 rounds of live ammunition, bags, literature, solar lights, batteries and radio sets were found from the area. Prior to that, heavy exchange of gunfire between the Maoists and security forces was reported, but no casualties have been reported so far.

According to Yeswant Jethwa, IG, South Western Range, the naxals fled the area following the encounter. But, it is difficult to say whether some of them were injured or not. Central Committee member of the CPI (Maoist) Jampha, who hails from Warangal district of Andhra Pradesh, was present at the time of encounter, but escaped.

The COBRA battalion of the CRPF have started massive combing operation in the area. They are being assisted by local police personnel.
