ONI Bureau: Owing to massive traffic congestion due to marriage processions, the Commissionerate Police has issued orders banning such processions on 5 busy routes of the Capital City in day and night time till further orders. The order shall come into force with effect from February 1, 2018.

The routes include:

1. New Airport Crossing to Acharya Vihar via AG Crossing
2. Raj Bhawan Chhak to KIIT Chhak
3. Kalpana Square to Raj Bhawan Chhak via AG Crossing
4. Vani Vihar Crossing to Sishu Bhawan Chhak
5. Cuttack Road-Rasulgarh Crossing to Rabi Talkies Chhak.

The DCP (Traffic), Commissionerate Police, Bhubaneswar-Cuttack at Bhubaneswar noted that road congestion is very often experienced on different roads of Bhubaneswar City due to marriage processions resulting in difficulties being faced by the general public, as they fail to reach their destination such as Railway Station, Bus Stand, Airport and Hospitals in time.

It was also observed that at times, essential services like Ambulance and Fire Service become victims of the traffic congestion due to marriage processions. The Commissionerate Police took the above decision in public interest.
