Jagriti Mahila Mandal, an umbrella body of wives of employees in Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL), conducted a series of competitions in the peripheral villages to encourage rural women. Besides this initiative to mark the International Women’s Day, the members of Jagriti Mahila Mandal led by their president Ms Anju Sahay also organised ‘Holi Milan’ with the rural women and girls to celebrate the ensuing festivity of colours.
A large number of women and girls participated in competitions conducted at villages — Regulatory Para, Durgapalli, Madiadungri and Kantapalli. “Like every year, this year also we have organised Rangoli, Alpana, mehendi designing competitions for women in villages of our peripheral area”, said Ms Sahay, who also judged the performance of participants and gave away prizes to the winners.
Over the year participation of rural women in these completions has increased, she said, asserting that Jagriti Mahila Mandal is taking up CSR initiatives on behalf of MCL to help socio-economic poor segments of the society. “Encouraging rural talents always gives immense pleasure and satisfaction,’’ said Dr Richa Srivastava, vice-president, Jagriti Mahila Mandal while distributing prizes among the winners at village Durgapalli. Ms Shashi Jain, Secretary, Jagriti Mahila Mandal, coordinated the competitions.
