Modi takes on Naveen over Healthcare, Swachh Bharat & Rice Scheme

ONI Bureau: Prime Minister Narendra Modi while addressing a public rally in Odisha’s Talcher after laying foundation stone for the revival of Talcher Fertlizer Plant, has lashed out at CM Naveen Patnaik on various issues, saying he is not doing enough to develop Odisha.

“Odisha lags behind on implementation of Swachh Bharat mission as compared to other States in the country. No concrete steps being taken to check open defecation. Toilets are not being built. I wonder why Naveen Patnaik is unable to understand it. I urge him again to step up the efforts and improve the situation,” he said.

Modi also criticised Naveen Patnaik for his reluctance to implement Ayushman Bharat scheme although healthcare situation in Odisha is in a complete mess. “He must understand the gravity of the situation and take advantage of central schemes in the interest of people,” he added.

The most important aspect of PM Modi’s speech was his revelation on Re 1 Rice scheme, which has been BJD Government and Naveen Patnaik’s primary strength in rural areas. “Centre is paying Rs 25/30 per Kg on the Re 1 Rice Scheme in Odisha. We are spending Rs 450 crore per month on it,” he said.

PM Modi listed his government’s initiatives for Eastern India as part of ‘Mission Purbodaya’, especially for Odisha. “5 Hospitals in Odisha are being constructed on a war footing. Rs 516 crore has been allocated for the Super Specialty Hospital in Rourkela; work is going on. PM Ujjwala Scheme has brought smiles women in rural and poor household. Only 22% people had access to LPG connectivity when he took over. Now, 60-65% people have access to it,” he added.
