Mortal Remains of Odia Mountaineer Kalpana Dash Reaches Bhubaneswar

The body of Odia mountaineer Kalpana Dash reached Bhubaneswar this morning. Her body will be kept at Kalinga Stadium for around one hour for the general public to pay last respects.

The body was handed over to a three-member team from Odisha, which includes Kalpana’s brother Pradip Dash after completion of necessary paper-work in Kathmandu. 52-year-old mountaineer passed away at the Everest Balcony area at the height of 8600 feet on May 23 while descending from the summit. Dash, who had left for Everest on April 23, had complained breathlessness while descending from the peak.

The mountaineer had first scaled Mt Everest in 2008. In her illustrious career, she had trekked many mountains conquering peaks in Europe, America and Australia, besides India.

Odisha will miss its dear daughter, first Everester, Kalpana Dash.
