In a major development, the Narendra Modi Government has cancelled the registration of 627 non-governmental organisations (NGOs) from Odisha for non-compliance with the Foreign Contributions (Regulation) Act (FCRA), 2010.
As per the notification put up on the Union Home Ministry’s FCRA website, these organisations have not filed their returns for three consecutive financial years i.e. from 2009-10, 2010-11 and 2011-12, for which they have been barred from receiving foreign funds with immediate effect.
Among others, Orissa University of Agriculture & Technology (OUAT), Odisha State Disaster Management Authority (OSDMA), Odisha Primary Education Programme Authority (OPEPA) and Odisha Computer Application Centre (OCAC) etc. are some of prominent organisations of the state, whose registrations have been cancelled in this connection.
The Union Govt has so far barred as many as 4,470 such NGOs across the country from getting foreign funds for violating the established norms and values.
