National Handloom Expo 2015 to begin on Feb 4

National Handloom ExpoNational Handloom Expo 2015 will be organized in Bhubaneswar from February 4 to March 1 under the aegis of Ministry of Textiles and Development Commissioner of Handloom. Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik will inaugurate the Handloom expo on Wednesday at 6 pm. This information was given by Director, Debendra Prasad Das in a press conference. The event will be organized at an outlay of Rs 18 lakh. State government will provide financial support for the public event under the scheme Promotion of Handloom Industry (POHI).

The Handloom Expo is being organized at IDCO exhibition ground, Unit-3 in Bhubaneswar. Around 100 stalls have been constructed for the participants. 16 states will take part in this public event – Andhra Pradesh, West Bengal, UP, MP, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Delhi, Tamilnadu, Karnataka, Rajasthan, Haryana, Punjab, Odisha, J&K, Maharashtra, and Pondicherry .

Out of the total 100 stalls, 28 have been allotted to Odisha. One Theme Pavilion has been constructed to display the Odisha Handloom Sarees by Weavers Service Center, Bhubaneswar. The Theme Pavilion has been constructed in shape of three chariots resembling the Car Festival keeping in view the eagerly awaited Nabakalebara at Puri.

Workshop/Seminars will be organised during the period of Handloom Expo. Live demonstration of weaving activities on loom will be arranged for awareness of the customers on handloom product. Adequate security has been arranged for watch & ward of N H Expo by covering the entire expo area under CC TV surveillance. Fire brigade vehicle will be stationed in the expo ground and fire extinguishers are to be placed to prevent fire accident. One ambulance will be stationed in the expo ground for emergency logistic support to nearby hospital. Arrangement has been made to provide the First aid service to the participants by Doctors from ESI/ Health Dept.

Arrangements have been made for organization of Culture Programme in the public event. Food stalls are to be opened for refreshment of the customers and for amusement of the children Doli/Chakri will be installed. Expo office will work 24 hours in the Expo ground to provide the necessary service to the participants and also to the customers. Officials expect to touch the sales target of Rs 7 crore from the Handloom Expo.
