Naveen Patnaik urges Centre to release Rs 795.31Cr for Farmers’ Insurance Claims

Naveen PatnaikOdisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has urged the Centre to release its share of 795 crore 31 lakh rupees to settle insurance claims of farmers affected by drought in 2015 kharif season.

In a letter written to Union Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh on Wednesday, Naveen Patnaik stated that more than 21 lakh farmers in the state were covered under National Agricultural Insurance Scheme during Kharif 2015, under which the money is sought.

The letter mentioned that Agricultural Insurance Corporation (AIC), the designated agency for implementing National Agriculture Insurance Scheme (NAIS), has approved the claims 1,776 crore 34 lakh rupees for Kharif 2015 season for Odisha on October 5, 2016.

The letter added the State has already sanctioned its share which would be disbursed to farmers as soon the Central share is received.
