Naveen writes to PM seeking Rs 1,000 Cr for Cyclone affected Districts

ONI Bureau:  Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Thursday urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to release an interim assistance of Rs 1,000 crore for relief and restoration works in Cyclone Titli-affected districts in Odisha.

In a letter to the Prime Minister, Odisha CM said, “As you are aware, Odisha has been intensely affected by the very severe cyclonic storm ‘TITLI’, the storm and subsequent floods have caused damage and destruction in 17 districts of Odisha. A non-coastal district namely, Gajapati has been the worst affected”.

The letter further stated, “Since the prediction of IMD was meant for a number of districts apart from the worst affected districts of Gajapati, Gannjam and Rayagada, we had to make wide deployment of our resources”.

Earlier a day before, Chief Secretary Aditya Prasad Padhi informed to newsmen that the State Government is trying to compensate the losses from State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF); if it face a shortage of funds, will report to the Centre.

However, today Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan after his visit to Rayagada tehsil of Gajapati district gave assurance to the people that he will inform to the Prime Minister about the loss due to the cyclone titli.
