With a view to fulfill Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appeal to go for digital transactions across the country, Nuagaon village under the Satyabadi block of Puri District became Odisha’s first cashless village on Friday.
All payments in the village are being done through plastic money. Traders, tea shops, vegetable and fruit vendors, and others providing goods and services in Nuagaon village are using swipe machines as well as mobile phone for cashless transactions.
The initiative was followed by the historical decision of the Prime Minister to demonetise of Rs. 500 and Rs. 1,000 notes on Nov.8 to check corruption and black money in the country.
In 1999, Nuagaon village was declared as the model village in the state for its achievements in sanitation facilities, cleanliness, and pollution free environment.
