Odisha becomes 2nd State in Providing Jobs to Sportspersons

CHIEF MINISTER SHRI NAVEEN PATNAIK REVIEWING ON ACTIVITIES OF RURAL DEVELOPMENT DEPARTMENT AT SECRETARIAT ON 2-6-2015.Bhubaneswar, Oct 9: Odisha became the second state in India after Haryana in providing jobs to successful sportsperson in police department. Odisha government has appointed 43 successful sportsperson including 37 women in its police department. In India, Haryana is the number one state in felicitating jobs to successful sportspersons under sports quote by appointing as many as 50 sportspersons this year.

In a statement issued here, the state government said that 47 sportspersons were appointed in the police department under sports quota and around 300 applications were being under consideration for the appointment.

Presiding over a high-level meeting at State Secretariat, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik directed officials of concerned department to expedite the scrutiny of the applications for the appointment of sportspersons into departments.

It is noteworthy that the state government has formulated a special policy to appoint successful sportsperson in the police department. The meeting was attended by Chief Secretary GC Pati, Development Commissioner UN Behera, DGP Sanjeev Marik and many other senior officials.
