Odisha CM Announces State-Level Mourning Over The Demise Of Odisha’s Acclaimed Classical Singer Sunanda Patnaik

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has declared a state-level mourning in the state today as a mark of respect to the demise of acclaimed classical singer Sunanda Patnaik.

Sunanda Patnaik was fondly known as Guruma. In a press release issued by the Chief Minister’s Office, it was declared to establish Guruma Sunanda Patnaik Chair in her memory at Odisha Culture University. Also, an award named ‘Sunanda Samman’ will be awarded to noted and successful singers every year in her memory.

A State-level mourning will be held at Guru Kelucharan Mahapatra Odissi Research Centre today (Wednesday). Further, the State Government has decided to celebrate ‘Sunanda Patnaik Jayanti’ every year in her memory at Guru Kelucharan Odissi Research Centre, the press release stated.
