Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, on Wednesday, laid the foundation stone for a planetarium in Rayagada district in Odisha. He also laid foundation stone for establishment of a district science center in Jeypore of Koraput district through video conferencing.
The chief minister said there were currently two planetariums in Odisha, while inaugurating the Rayagada planetarium. In addition, the state government has decided to build six more planetariums.
The Government also plans to set up a science center in each of the 30 districts. A sum of Rs 100cr has been invested for this. Moreover, the plan is also to develop Pathani Samantha Planetarium in Bhubaneswar into a 3-D planetarium.
“Science and technical knowledge have played an important role in the development of human civilization. If humanity has reached the pinnacle of civilization today, it is the contribution of science. Science and development are two sides of the same coin,” he said.
