Odisha CM unveils Statue of Tribal Icon Birsa Munda on World Adivasi Day

ONI Bureau:   On the occasion of International Day of the World’s Indigenous People (World Adivasi Day), Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Thursday unveiled a statue of the Indian freedom fighter and a tribal leader Birsa Munda at Chandrasekharpur area in Bhubaneswar.

World Adivasi Day is observed on 9 August each year to promote and protect the rights of the world’s indigenous population.

On the occasion of 76th anniversary of Quit India Movement and World Adivasi Day the CM paid homage to the brave tribal martyrs Saheed Birsa Munda and Saheed Laxman Nayak.

Worth Mentioning, Birsa Munda, a tribal revolutionary who revolted against the British rule.Birsa Munda is known to have mobilised the tribal community against the British and had also forced the colonial officials to introduce laws protecting the land rights of the tribals. He was only 25 years of age when he died in the custody of British authorities in the Ranchi Central Jail.
