Odisha CM urges Mobile Banking, Temporary Banking Counters in Unbanked Areas

naveen-patnaikExpressing concern over demonetisation crisis, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik wrote letter to Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley requesting mobile banking services, temporary banking counters in unbanked Panchayats.

Odisha has around 6,000 Gram Panchayats out of which about 4,000 do not have a bank branch. Around 16 million people of the rural population in Odisha do not have proper banking facilities. So mobile banking services is highly require in these areas with adequate availability of amount of Rs 100 notes.

In his letter, the Chief Minister demanded opening of temporary counters for distribution of money. He also assured that the State Government will provide all the require support including infrastructure.

Notably, CM Naveen Patnaik had welcomed the historic announcement made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to demonetize Rs. 1,000 and Rs. 500 notes.
