Odisha Congress to launch ‘Bijli satyagraha’ against BJD

Congress Press Meet in BhubaneswarBhubaneswar, Sep 29:  The Congress’ Odisha unit on Tuesday said it would launch a ‘Bijli satyagraha’ against the BJD-led state government for resorting to power cuts even in the monsoon season.

Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) president Prasad Harichandan said the party would launch Bijli satyagraha (non-violent movement against the government’s power cuts policy) after Dussehra for failing to provide uninterrupted power supply to the people.

He said while the state government boasts of signing MoUs with 29 power producers and augmenting additional power generation, only four out of 29 companies have started commercial operations.

The Congress also rescheduled it’s ‘padyatra’ (walkathon) slated to kick-start on October 2.  The OPCC president said the statewide padyatra of the party would be launched from October 14 and would continue till April, 2016. It would be held in 10 phases.

The first padyatra will be from Dhenkanal and Angul districts, said Harichandan. The party would make drought, farmer suicides, power cuts and corruption its major issues during the padyatra.
