Odisha Disaster Preparedness Day: CM dedicates Early Warning Dissemination System

ONI Bureau:  On the 19th anniversary of the 1999 Super Cyclone which is observed as Disaster Preparedness Day in Odisha, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik inaugurated the Early Warning Dissemination System (EWDS) at Rabindra Mandap in Bhubaneswar today.

The EWDS is a first-of-its-kind automatic public address system in the country, is being implemented under National Cyclone Risk Mitigation Project.

Notably, the state government has installed 122 alert towers in six coastal districts – Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Puri and Ganjam. Warnings would be issued through sirens in event of occurrence of natural disasters like a tsunami, cyclone or flood.
