Odisha Farmers call-off strike

The long due conclusion finally came as a relief with the decision taken for farmers to procure paddy even without the centralised token.

The decision states, for those farmers who have not received the centralised token, a token will be generated at the market yard after they come with their procure to the yard.

The resolution reached after the agitated farmers protested demanding the withdrawal of the centralised token system, generated from Bhubaneswar and blocked the Mumbai-Kolkata highway at Baraipali in Sambalpur district and Godbhaga in Bargarh district by stacking paddy bags on the road which restricted the movement of hundreds of vehicles.

The road blockade was withdrawn after the farmers were assured of their procure being accepted without the centralised token at the yard. Farmer leader Birendra Kumar Kar said, “We withdrew the road blockade after they assured us that the paddy will be procured from all the farmers, who will come to the market yard.”
