Odisha: Few Takers for BMC’s Smart City Campaign on Twitter

BMC-Smart-city-webBhubaneswar, Nov 2: Have you ever heard of ‘Smart City Campaign’ launched by Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC)?  In the race of 100 Smart Cities in India, BMC has been striving hard to get a place in the elite group of 20 Smart Cities in India for Bhubaneswar.

Commissioner Krishan Kumar said that “We are hopeful of entering the elite group of 20 Smart Cities”.

BMC has started many campaigns to create awareness among the resident of Bhubaneswar about making Smart City or to get a tag of Smart City for the capital city.

So, BMC has also entBMC-Smart-city-fbered into the areas of digital media in promoting the campaigning – created a portal   smartcitybhubaneswar.gov.in/home, where visitors can share their views even participate into various contests.

Here are some of the interactive features of the portal – Signage Contest, to participate in the contest; Idea Box, share your ideas about smart city and win prizes; Vote for Smart Transportation, where you can vote for the best transport services; and lastly Discussion Forum, which will be coming soon live on the site, which will feature discuss in various threads.

BMC has started the online campaign on Social Media sites too on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Youtube.

The Facebook page (facebook.com/bhubaneswartowardssmartcity) of the campaign received around 20,760 likes as on Nov 2nd. More than 253 like in a week made this page viral. Some media reports say that BMC’s social media campaign goes strong.

However, the claim fails as its official Twitter handle (@Bbsr2SmartCity) dedicated for the campaign has only 102 followers as on Nov 2.

BMC-Smart-city-TwitterAs per the user flow on both accounts, the campaign is getting good response on Facebook but it’s not getting that much response on other social media i.e., on Twitter.

In order to mark an impression on social media, BMC needs to score best on Twitter as well, the site which is considered as the official version of many organizations, groups and companies.

Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi (@narendramodi) and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik (@Naveen_Odisha) do share their activities minute by minute. Their active presence on this social media sites shows the importance and wide reach of Twitter. They reach millions of people through single tweeet, which is not only effective but all considered as their official version. So, BMC needs to work on its Twitter handle in order to make the campaign really viral on Social Media.
