A day after the Centre has decided to increase the man days under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) in drought-hit areas of the country to 150 days from the existing 100 days, the Odisha Government made it 200 days. It was announced by Law & Panchayatiraj Minister Arun Sahoo.
The Cente’s move was aimed at providing compensation to farmers in drought-hit areas of the country, who are having a tough time due to inadequate rains this monsoon. The Odisha Government decided to move a step further in this regard, as drought crisis looms large over many districts in Western Odisha and other parts of the state.
Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik also held discussions with District Collectors of Koraput, Kalahandi, Nabarangpur, Malkangiri through video conference on flood situation. He also sought a report from them on losses due to flood situation within 7 days.
