Odisha Govt confirms 3,72,652 PMUY Beneficiaries in 3 Cyclone Affected Dists

ONI Bureau: In a rare departure from its previous stand that the PM Ujjwala Yojana or PMUY has been a complete failure and even a big “scam”, the Odisha Government finally admitted the presence of 3,72,652 beneficiaries under the scheme in 3 cyclone-affected districts – Ganjam, Gajapati and Rayagada.

While seeking free LPG cylinders for cyclone-ravaged districts, Odisha Food & Supplies Minister Surjya Narayan Patro admitted the figure. In a letter written to Union P&NG Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, Mr. Patro confirmed that 3,64,652 people in Ganjam, Gajapati and Rayagada districts are availing PMUY. As they are facing a lot of hardship aftermath Cyclone Titli, they are entitled to free LPG cylinders, not at the subsidized rate, Surjya Patro said.

According to the letter, Ganjam district has 2,39,683 PMUY beneficiaries, while Gajapati has 50,990. In addition, 81,979 people are availing PMUY in Rayagada district, the letter said.

It can be recalled that the Petroleum Ministry has already announced LPG Connections at just Rs 200 (for BPL families) and Rs 1,200 (for APL families) for those who have lost their LPG cylinders during Cyclone Titlli. Special camps have been set up in Ganjam, Gajapati and Rayagada to assist the consumers.
