Odisha Govt dedicates Official Website in Odia Language

OdishaBhubaneswar, Nov 23: Odisha government launched its official website in Odia language on Saturday. The state government has decided to make Odia language as compulsory subject in both government and private schools from Class I to X and to appoint Odia teachers from Class VI to X, according to a release issued by Odia Bhasa Sangram Samiti (OBSS) here.

The state government asked all the secretaries of departments to send their modalities to the Chief Minister for approval by second week of December.

The website was launched with an initiative from OBSS headed by Sankarsan Parida. The organization has been working for recognition of Odia language and implementation of Orissa Official Language Act, 1954.

Demanding the implementation of the act, the members of OBSS were observed 8-day hunger strike following which Chief Minister ordered for the formation of five members committee for the implementation of the act and promotion of Odia language in the state in July 2015. Odisha government and OBSS have reached on an agreement to launched official website in Odia language.

The website was dedicated during a third Ministerial-level meeting held under the chairmanship of School and Mass Education Minister Debi Prasad Mishra, at state secretariat on Saturday. The meeting was attended by Ministers Bikram Kesari Arukh, Dr. Arun Kumar Sahoo, Pranab Prakash Das and Atanu Sabyasachi Nayak, linguist Debi Prasanna Pattanaik, Sankarsan Parida and Subrat Prusty.
