Odisha Govt inks MoU with IIT, BhubaneswarBhubaneswar, Dec 1: Odisha government and IIT, Bhubaneswar signed a MoU on Monday to set up a Centre for management, training and research on rural roads in the campus of the institute.

The cost of construction of this Centre is approximately Rs.8.0 crores with 60-seat hostel facility for the training of the engineers from various engineering departments of Odisha government, as stated in a statement issued here.

It is a matter of fact that engineers joining Odisha government do not get adequate training to upgrade their sills and knowledge and keep them updated about the newer technologies in road, building and bridge sector.

The  Odisha government will be benefited by the services of the captive faculty of IIT, Bhubaneswar, a prestigious institution so that engineers across major five departments like Rural Development, Works, Water Resources, Panchyat Raj and Housing &Urban Development department can be provided regular training at this Centre depending on the needs of their departments.

In addition to constructing the Centre, Odisha government would provide annually Rs.10 crore to IIT Bhubaneswar through Rural Development Department for running and maintenance of the Centre. This will in a big way fulfills the need of engineers to get regular training and at the same time an opportunity to IIT, Bhubaneswar to impart good sills to our engineers.

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik said “I am glad that a Training and Research Centre is going to be established in the campus of IIT, Bhubaneswar with support from the State government to impart training to field engineers of R.D., Works, Water Resources, Panchayat Raj and Housing & Urban Development Department. Development of Infrastructure has been our priority, and we need engineers with excellent technical skills for improving the standard and qualify of infrastructure projects  in the state. Regular up-gradation of knowledge will no doubt enhance the professional skills of our technocrats. I thank the Director, IIT, Bhubaneswar for extending his cooperation and wish the endeavour all success.”
