Odisha Govt on back foot, as Opposition asks Tough Questions

ONI Bureau: On the first day of Winter Session of Odisha Assembly, which saw less number of working hours due to the ruckus created by the Opposition parties led by the Congress, the ruling BJD Government faced some tough questions and failed to provide any reasonable answers too.

Farmers’ Agitation:

Leader of Opposition Narasingha Mishra accused the Government of murdering democracy saying it was successful in foiling the farmers’ agitation using force and dirty tricks.

Daru Selection:

Congress Chief Whip Tara Prasad Bahinipati demanded a CBI probe into irregularities in ‘Daru Selection’ and ‘Bramha Parivartan’ fiasco.

Anganwadi Centres:

Minister Prafulla Samal had a tough time to inform the House that out of 72,587 anganwadi centres, 34,651 don’t have their own building. However, he tried to put up a volt face saying 13,566 centres are under-construction and contracts have been handed over to construct 12,156 centres.

Dal Scam:

Expelled BJD MLA Dr. Damodar Rout raised the question of Dal Scam involving then Minister Pramila Mallick and wanted to know why Vigilance report on the scam was not tabled in Odisha Assembly although Vigilance had submitted it in 2012. However, Women & Child Welfare Minister Prafulla Samal said they have not received any report from the Vigilance Department yet.
