The Odisha Government will be requesting the Centre soon to accord ‘classical’ tag to Odissi music.
The proposal for the same came up during the Heritage Cabinet meeting presided by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Wednesday.
The form of music is ancient and has a classical background, a news agency quoted Odisha Culture Minister Jyoti Panigrahi.
The state government has already accorded ‘classical’ status to Odissi music. Odissi dance is a recognized classical dance form and Odia is a recognized classical language already.
