Odisha: Lawyers, BJP protest against Police Excess in Kendrapara

Lawyers across Odisha have staged a massive demonstration, protesting against the police excess in Kendrapara and demanded strong action against former Kendrapara MP Satish Gajviye, who humiliated the District BJP President Duryodhan Sahu in public, who also happens to be a lawyer.

Satish Gajviye personally entered the ‘battlefield’ and resorted to lathicharge during the protests against Sarathi Baba. He beat up the agitators. At the same time, he made Duryodhan Sahu kneel down on the road and perform sit-up. That triggered a massive outrage in the state.

Athough Gajviye was transferred immediately from Kendrapara at the heat of the moment and posted as Officer Without Duty at the Police Headquarters, he courted further controversy by criticising media, public and political parties in a Facebook post and justifying his act.

Meanwhile, the BJP also held protests in front of all police stations across Odisha and lodged complaint against Satish Gajviye. As the BJD has criticised Gajviye, it is believed that he would be suspended soon, may be later today. There is a public anger against Gajviye elsewhere. Kendrapara has come to a complete halt due to the strike by lawyers as well the BJP cadres.
