Odisha pays Rich Tribute to Utkalmani Gopabandhu Das

ONI Bureau:  Odisha paid a rich tribute to social reformer and freedom fighter Utkalmani Pandit Gopabandhu Das on his 141st birth anniversary today.

Political leaders and people from different walks of life paid floral tributes to the social reformer today. Born on 9 October 1877 at Suando Village, near Puri, Odisha, Gopabandhu always worked for the poor and downtrodden of the society.

Gopabandhu established his famous Satyabadi Bana Bidyalaya in the year 1909, at Sakshi Gopal, near Puri. He published a monthly magazine ‘Satyabadi’ in 1914.

He became the first president of the Congress party in Odisha and brought Gandhiji to Odisha in 1921.
