Odisha Police to launch “Paree Pain Kathatiea” campaign against child abuse

ONI Bureau:  Odisha Police on Wednesday decided to launch a 15 days statewide awareness campaign against sexual assaults on minor girls and child abuse that is from 28th May to 12th June, 2018.

The name of the Chariot shall be “Paree”; the theme of the campaign shall be “Paree Pain Kathatiea” i.e. “A word for the little angel”, informed by Dr R.P.Sharma, IPS, DGP, Odisha, in State Police Headquarters, Cuttack.

This awareness campaign shall involve all official and social stake holders like NGOs, and community based organizations. For this purpose 15 Chariots shall be flagged off from different parts of the state on 28 th May 2018 and shall cover 2 districts each in 15 days and converge in Bhubaneswar on

12 th June, 2018 for a valedictory function. The Chariots shall be received at different locations by the local Police, district administration and other social stake holders with community participation to generate awareness for prevention and reporting of such heinous crime.

An analysis of sexual assaults against minor girls reveals that in more than 90% cases, the offenders are either relatives, acquaintances from the neighborhood or belonging to the same local community. Prevention of such crimes becomes difficult for Police and therefore mass awareness on roles and responsibilities of family members and members of the community to prevent such crime is of paramount importance.

The chariots shall have a LCD screen in which audio-visuals shall be played; leaflets and other printed materials shall be distributed followed by community interaction. This awareness campaign shall be undertaken in technical collaboration with UNICEF. Shri Asheet Kumar Panigrahi, IPS, IG of Police, Headquarters, Odisha shall be the State Nodal Officer to coordinate and monitor the statewide campaign.
