Odisha Power Minister to hold meeting on Power Cuts

Power-OdishaBhubaneswar, Nov 12: Odisha Power Minister Pranab Prakash Das will hold a high-level meeting today over the power cuts in the state. The minister and officials will chalk out strategy for the future power cuts in the state.

It is noteworthy that, the state government has decided to discontinue the power cuts in the state till November 15 on account of festivals celebration. The government may take decision about the power cuts in the meeting today.

Considering the power crisis in the state, the state government has announced power cuts from September 11. According to Energy Secretary Suresh Mohapatra, Odisha currently needs 3,500 MW of electricity per day, which increases up to 4,000 MW during peak hours, but falls short of the target by 500 MW.

Odisha is currently receiving 1000 MW less power from some major hydro power generation units due to various reasons. And, as per officials, the hydro power projects in the state have been generating additional 1400 MW daily apart from irrigating farms lands.
