Odisha to appoint Transgenders as jail Warders

The Odisha government has decided to appoint the members of transgender as jail warders. It has been informed to the Odisha Subordinate Staff Selection Commission (OSSSC) by the State police.

This is for the first time Odisha government will mention third gender as a separate category in any of the government recruitment process.

As per the order of the Supreme Court, there must be a third gender category for transgenders in government recruitment, said ADG Manoranjan Patnaik.

The government has provided livelihood support to the transgender community and has been welcomed by the community members for the step taken by the state government which had been a long standing demand.
