Odisha to construct 700 Houses for Urban Poor in Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar, Aug 2urban-housing-bhubaneswar0: Odisha will be the first state in the country to begin construction of houses for urban poor people under ‘Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana’, launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in June this year.

Under this Yojana, Odisha government will launch two housing projects for urban poor people on 1st September 2015. It was announced by Principal Secretary of Odisha, Urban Development, G Mathi Vathanan  at a workshop organised by Urban Poverty Alleviation (HUPA) Ministry here.

According to officials, the government would construct around 700 houses for urban poor people under these two housing projects in Bhubaneswar. The projects would be carried out under “Affordable Housing in Partnership” component of urban housing mission.

Odisha, Bihar, Jharkhand, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Jammu & Kashmir and Nagaland have agreed to implement this mission. Others will follow suit by the end of the month.

Odisha also became the first state to submit a comprehensive Housing for All action plan for the state, which was appreciated by the Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation (HUPA) Ministry. The Ministry requested Odisha to provide a copy of the plan to other states.
