Odisha to fix Coast erosion through Natural Process

Puri-beach-erosionThe Secretary of Water Resources Department, Pradip Jena on Wednesday said natural process will be followed to check the erosion at the Puri beach, after getting suggestions from expert team from IIT, Madras.

Talking to the news-persons, Jena said, there is massive erosion of coast land near Swarga Dwara of the Puri beach area due to surge in sea waves. An expert team has visited the spot and has inspected the situation. After examining in details necessary steps will be taken accordingly.

Jena also said “No structures will be constructed on the beach to reduce the erosion which will affect the scenic and aesthetic beauty of the beach and are laying importance to repair the beach by natural process”.

He also added the steps taken by the Odisha government to check the erosion. The digging work has been started in the Mangala river mouth. The work is halted due to rain which will take another seven to eight days to complete the process. It is expected that the process would help to check erosion at Swargadwar (a cremation ground in the beach).

The local administration has hoisted red flags at the spot and the tourists have been asked not to take bath near Swargadwar. Life guards have also been deployed in the area.
