Odisha to implement National Food Security Act from Nov 1

National Food Security ActBhubaneswar, Sep 3: The Odisha government will implement National Food Security Act (NFSA) from November 1st covering ten districts in the first phase. The act was slated to be implemented in October 1st in Odisha.

Food Supply and Consumer Welfare Secretary, Madhusudan Padhi said that in the first phase the National Food Security Act would be implemented in ten districts of Odisha. He said that around 50 lakh names of ineligible beneficiaries were deleted by the state government. Around 70 lakh ineligible beneficiaries will be put out of beneficiaries list under the act, he added.

Padi said that the due to registration of excess number of beneficiaries listed under the NFSA for which the implementation was differed to November from October.  He said that the central government has allowed the state to cover 3.26 crore people out of state total population of 4.21 crore under the NFSA. Padi assured that ineligible beneficiaries would be excluded from the list of beneficiaries under the act.
