Odisha to reconstitute Gram Panchayats with 10,000 or more population

Bhubaneswar, Aug 19: Odisha government will reconstitute all Gram Panchayats on the basis of 2011 Census population for better governance and administration.  Panchayat Raj Minister Arun Kumar Sahoo informed this on Tuesday in a written reply to a question raised by legislator Naba Kishore Das.

The stage government will bifurcate and reconstitute all Gram Panchayats having population of 10,000 or more.  For the constitution of new Gram Panchayats , the government would consider the geographical aspect and administrative convenience. It is reported that new Gram Panchayats would have average population of 5,000 and distance of farthest village in the panahayat would be within 2 to 5 km.
