Odisha’s Chandrabhaga becomes Asia’s first ‘Blue Flag’ Beach

ONI Bureau: The celebration of World Environment Day will be doubled for people of Odisha this time as Chandrabhaga beach on the Konark coast of Odisha is the first in Asia to get the ‘Blue Flag’ certification. Chandrabhaga will receive the tag on the occasion of World Environment Day on Tuesday.

India is hosting the World Environment Day 2018 celebrations with the theme ‘Beat Plastic Pollution’. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will chair the plenary session today.

Worth Mentioning, the blue flag certification is awarded to clean and environment-friendly beaches, marinas and sustainable boating tourism operators that strictly comply with 33 environment and tourism-related conditions.

The Blue Flag is a certification by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE) that include the criteria of standards for water quality, safety, environmental education and information, the provision of services and general environmental management criteria.
