Bhubaneswar, Oct 14: As many as six farmers in Odisha have committed suicide following crop loss due to drought and debt. On Wendesday, another farmer ended his life in Titilagarh.
According to reports, Peta Nag, a farmer by profession, had consumed poison on Tuesday evening. He breathed his last today at Khadial Mission hospital in Nuapada district, where he was under going treatment. He had taken a loan of Rs 1 lakh to invest in agriculture activities. Following the crop loss and burden of debt, he ended his life.
On Tuesday, two farmers belong to Bargarh and Naupada districts respectively committed suicide. The two farmers identified as Magsheer Majhi of Takurla village in Bargarh district and Dharmodhar Ada of Khirmla village in Naupada district. Both the farmers had taken loan for agriculture activities. They took extreme step following crop loss due to poor rainfall.
