Opposition stalls Odisha Assembly over Farmers’ Issue

Congress-MLA-Odisha-AssemblyBhubaneswar, Dec 15: Odisha Assembly witnessed stormy session on Monday following ruckus by Opposition leaders over farmers’ death and drought issue. The house was adjourned for 21 minutes by the Speaker.

Some Congress legislators moved privilege motion against Agriculture Minister Pradeep Kumar Maharathy alleging of misleading the house over farmers death in the state.

Congress MLA Nabakishore Das and others raised the issued during the zero hour and demanded for Speaker’s action over the privilege motion moved against the minister. Finding no action from the Speaker, Congress legislators rushed to the Well and protested. Over which the house was adjourned.

After the house was reconvened, opposition MLAs raised the drought issue blaming the ruling BJD government for not taking measures in the interest of farmers. They alleged that the state government had announced Rs.5500 crore for drought-hit farmers but distributed only Rs.436 crores.

Congress MLAs alleged the BJD government of failing to keep its promises as declared in its manifesto during assembly elections.
