Pana Sankranti, Ramzan Celebrated Amid Restrictions

As the COVID-19 cases continue to surge across Odisha, the festivals of ‘Pana Sankranti’ and Ramzan will be held amid restrictions.

The Odia new year (Pana Sankranti) and the Muslim festival of observing fast (Ramzan) is being celebrated amid pandemic for the second consecutive year.

The ‘Pana Sankranti’ as it is called, marks the beginning of the Odia New Year. The new ‘Panjika’ or the almanac of the Hindu festivals, timings and the predictions is introduced on this day. People celebrate it by relishing a sweet-sour drink ‘Pana.’

However, the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation has prevented public distribution of ‘Pana’ and other beverages.

Similarly, for Ramzan, the mosque will be allowed to function with a maximum participation of 100 persons or 50 per cent of the total capacity of the premises. Ramzan, the month of fasting is observed for one month and Eid is celebrated after its culmination.
